Icy Roads Tonight
Even though temps warmed up to 40 in the Quad Cities this evening some of our pavement temps are still below freezing. That's allowing a lot of today's rain to freeze on roads - especially bridges, overpasses and on/off ramps. We've heard dozens of reports of cars in ditches and accidents, especially North of the Quad Cities. The Illinois State Police is urging people to stay home and off roads tonight in the NW corner of the state. Here's a map of Illinois road conditions: (Areas shaded in pink are completely covered with ice and/or snow. Yellow counties are partially covered in ice/snow...)
And the same can be said for driving conditions in NW Iowa. Again, there are all kinds of reports of icy conditions and you should avoid heading out if possible North of the Quad Cities!
There's a Freezing Rain Advisory North of the Quad Cities until midnight...Temps are close to the freezing mark making conditions very slick in Whiteside, Carroll, Lee and Jo Daviess Co Illinois. In Iowa it's an Advisory for Clinton and Jackson counties in the CBS4 area...
