Winter may not officially begin until December 21st, but we're already experiencing it first hand!
December temperatures are running about 5° below average and most locations dropped below zero last evening before temperatures starting rising with increasing clouds. In Iowa, Davenport reached -7° and Dubuque fell to -11°! Those were actual temperatures and not the wind chill.
Snow is on the way tonight and early Wednesday. This is not going to be a big snow maker, but it will make for a messy early morning commute Wednesday.
Highs will top out in the teens early Wednesday and fall to the single digits by afternoon. And, bitterly cold lows of -5° to -10° are expected Thursday morning.
From this map from NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, it looks like the colder than average temperatures will be sticking around for the Quad Cities to almost Christmas.
