Bitter Cold Continues...
Temperatures on Wednesday were in the lower 50s before a strong, arctic cold front swept through the area, dropping temperatures down into the 20s. Today, temperatures will barely make it to 20° and we'll also struggle to get out of the teens on Saturday as well. Factoring in a breezy northwest wind, it will feel more like the single digits, and at times (especially overnight) below zero!
As you can see by the Climate Prediction Center's temperature outlook for 6 to 10 days out, the well below normal temperature are going to continue. We have a strong area of arctic high pressure that is going to dominate over the next couple of days, bringing in the northwesterly flow. On Sunday as the high moves off to our east, we'll get more of a southeasterly flow which will help our temperature recover a *little* bit into the middle 20s. That's also going to allow a wave of energy to come in from the plains that will give us a chance for some measurable snow during the afternoon and overnight hours Sunday. Early indications show around an inch here in the Quad Cities, with two or three inches possible to the northwest. We'll keep an eye on that and the cold weather all weekend long!
