Another dust storm affected the Phoenix, AZ area yesterday (10/4/11), causing multi-car pileups. A southwest wind that gusted upwards of 40 mph and dry soil allowed for the dust to rise up to a mile into the air. These storms can develop very quickly and can reduce visibilities to zero. NWS forecasters say the winds will decrease for today but as another system is forecasted to move in Thursday. the winds from that system can gust as high as they were on Tuesday.
