Severe Weather in January?

Temperatures in the Quad Cities will be in the 50s for Monday and Tuesday.  But, a strong cold front will put a quick end to the warm temperatures Tuesday night into Wednesday.  The cold front could be strong enough to even produce some severe weather to our east and to our south.  There is a slight risk for severe weather for all the areas colored in yellow.  We'll keep you posted, but it should be something to watch!

Snowfall Totals this Weekend...

It didn't take too long for the snow and cold to return to the Quad Cities.  This weekend many neighborhods picked up from a 1/2" of snow to even 2"!  Kewanee, IL and Galva, IL picked up the most snow with 2".  Officially in the Quad Cities we picked up 1.4", but Davenport's Airport picked up less than inch of snow.  Many more snowfall totals can found by clicking on this link: QCA Snow Totals

The same system that brought snow to the QCA also produced some strong thunderstorms.  There were a few reports of strong winds in southern Illinois, Indiana and also in some areas along the Gulf Coast.

Old Man Winter Roars back into the Quad Cities...

After having above average temperatures and highs in the mid 50s on a Friday, a low pressure system ushered in some much colder temperatures and even snow on your Saturday.  Check out how much cooler it was on Saturday afternoon compared to Friday!  About 20-30° colder in most places!  But, don't worry while it will be colder, temperatures will be rather seasonable for the week ahead.  Lows will dip into the teens overnight and highs will climb into the 20s and eventually the 30s by mid-week!

Saturday's Wintry Mix...

We had a weak system produce some snow and rain on your Saturday.  As of late Saturday afternoon the system was affecting  Chicago where fell as snow.  That's because temperatures in Chicago are closer to the freezing mark.  While in the Quad Cities it did start as snow, but temperatures climbed into the mid 30s.  That caused the snow to quickly change over to rain and anything that did stick melted!

2012 Severe T-Storm/Tornado Warnings

The National Weather Service has compiled all of the Severe Thunderstorm and Tornado Warning for the 2012 year.   There were a few days with severe weather outbreaks, but the Southeast had a majority of the severe weather.  The Ohio River valley had more tornadoes than the Mississippi River Valley. You can also see that during the late spring and early summer warnings were issued further northeast and along the west coast.

Early Morning High Temperatures

As we approach the weekend, temperatures will be a bit cooler than average.  Our high temperatures today were actually close to the average high but it happened early this morning.  Temperature around 4 a.m. were in the upper 20s and lower 30s.  Sadly these temperatures are expected to fall throughout the day, dropping into the teens for the evening hours and into the single digits for the overnight low.
