A COLD Start!

Temperatures in the 20s were common across the area this morning, with Clinton dipping into the upper teens! Friday night should not be as cold, with lows in the 30s for most of us. Saturday afternoon looks great, with highs in the 60s!

A Cold Night Ahead...

As skies finally clear out late this afternoon the stage will be set for a very cold October night! In fact, a FREEZE WARNING is in effect for the QC, meaning the end to the growing season will happen tonight! By Friday morning we should be into the mid 20s for the first time in a long time!

Blue Skies for Miles!

There's blue sky as far as the eye can see this afternoon, again! It's another great fall day with highs near 70, and of course plenty of sunshine. The nice weather continues through this weekend, with just a slight dip in the temperatures Friday/Friday night.

Coming to an End...

We've been in the 80s for the last 5 days, and 6 of the first 12 days in October...but it will be MUCH COOLER Wednesday! Highs for the next few days will be a lot closer to average for mid-October, in the mid to upper 60s!

Paula Strengthens...

Paula has gotten considerably stronger today (now a cat. 2) and is flirting with some tourist hot-spots in Mexico. If you've been to Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Cozumel you're familiar with great beaches and a very relaxing atmosphere...but that's not the case tonight. The storm is offshore by about 100 miles and continues to move slightly closer to the Yucatan Pen. For the latest check out the NHC website located here:

Fall Colors

It's a beautiful time of year in the Quad Cities, as we've got plenty of fall color on display! Here's a map showing fall colors right now across the upper Midwest. Here in the QCA we're nearing our PEAK COLOR! Over the next couple weeks we hope to share some nice pics of the fall colors, feel free to send your snapshots to:

Tropics Flare Up

After some relatively quiet time down in the Tropics we've got another Tropical Storm out there, Paula! The storm has winds of 60 mph right now and should gain some strength and possibly become a hurricane over the next 36 hours. The storm will be approaching places like Cancun and Cozumel but should stay just off shore for the foreseeable future. It'll be a close call though and anyone with travel plans down to this part of Mexico over the next week or so should stay tuned, as the storm takes it sweet time down in the Caribbean!

WOW!

We did it...we set a new record high for October 9th in the Quad Cities! As of 4pm the high today was up to 88, breaking the old record of 87, which was set all the way back on October 9, 1938!

*Update* The record high ended up at 89° Saturday!

One Year Ago...

With the weather we've had lately here in the QC it's hard to believe that one year ago this weekend we had some light snow, with highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s! It's true though, on October 10, 2009, temperatures were WAY below normal.

Dry Spell Continues...

OK so it doesn't exactly look like the picture here but it has been rather dry for the last 2 weeks in the QC. We've had plenty of sunshine and a total of 0.04" of rain over the last 12 days...and there's more sunshine and dry weather on tap through the start of the weekend!

Almost There...

The Mississippi River has a little further to rise and should crest Wednesday afternoon/evening. The latest report has the river at 16.71' in the Quad Cities, with a crest expected around 16.9'. Thursday a slow fall begins and the river should finally be below flood stage (15') by Tuesday of next week!

Weekend Frost!

After a cold front passes by Friday night things will get MUCH COLDER for the weekend! Saturday highs will struggle to reach 60, and then Saturday night the bottom falls out! We'll see lows in the lower 30s for most of the QCA and frost is a very good bet Saturday night...
